With the centenary of the outbreak of World War One rapidly approaching, many Australians with an interest in their family history are keen to find out what happened to their relative(s) who fought in the War.

Aim of this website is twofold:

1. Outline the steps for you to take to uncover the details of the World War One service of your ancestor.

2. Offer a service to you for me to provide various levels of assistance for you.

Option 1 is a simple process to follow particularly for Australian researchers as most records are available on the internet and are FREE! (It is a much more difficult process for those tracing their British service personnel relatives.) Go here to begin your journey.

Option 2 is a solution for those who are time poor or perhaps have become bogged down or lost in the detail and need help to see their way through. Go here to see how you can get help.

Every soldier’s story is different and yours could be relatively easy to research. Other soldiers, particularly those with lengthy service, can have a lot of information that you will need time (or help) to work through.

If you wish to uncover only basic information, eg enlistment data, that is easy research. If you wish to follow his every step of the war then working your way through his unit’s War Diaries is a lengthy process where you often bump into military jargon.

The choice is yours. Please use this site to assist your research and contact me if you need assistance.

What is possible? For examples of the results of research carried out using this process see this website of my local community war memorial.
